DCA is guided by the experience and expertise of the Board of Directors. Each year, during the DCA Convention, new board members are elected to two-year terms and other directors remain to fulfill their elected term.

The 15 members of the 2008-2009 board met for the first time on February 17, 2008 at the 47th Annual DCA Convention in Indian Wells, California. They will also meet at the 2008 Mid-Year Meeting, held in The Homestead, Virginia, and at the 2008 DCA Fall Board of Directors Meeting, held in Grapevine, Texas in October.

The following individuals make up the 2008-2009 DCA Board of Directors:


Anthony R. Deusenbery, vice president of construction and safety director for Otis Eastern Service Inc., in Wellsville, New York

DCA President



Professional History: After graduating from Cornell University in 1975 with a degree in engineering, Deusenbery began his career with Deusenbery Farms working in agriculture. In 1980, he joined the Joyce Western Corporation in pipeline construction. Deusenbery worked as a consultant for Management Systems Consulting from 1983-1985 before joining Otis Eastern Service in 1987. He has been with the company 20 years, working as field office manager, compliance manager, health & safety coordinator, contract administrator and operations manager.


Shepard T. Poole, senior vice president of customer relations, labor relations, risk management, equipment and facilities management for The Hallen Construction Co., Inc. in Island Park, New York

Professional History: Poole began his construction career as a part-time laborer with Hallen in 1986. From 1992 through 1997, he was a superintendent. In 1997, he became the Quality Assurance director. From 1997-1999, he served as the assistant vice president of operations and in 1999, he was appointed vice president of operations.


Kevin G..Miller is president and chief operating officer of Miller Pipeline Corp., Indianapolis, Indiana.

DCA Treasurer

 

Professional History: Kevin started working for Miller Pipeline in 1972, in their shop, as a parts runner. Over the next 15 years, he worked in various field positions from laborer to crew foreman. In 1987, he became involved in the management of the company, starting as superintendent and eventually serving as Senior Vice President of Construction through 2004. In January 2005, he was appointed President of the company.

Christopher T. Leines, president of Minnesota Limited Inc. in Rogers, Minnesota

DCA Immediate Past President

 

Professional History: Leines has worked at Minnesota Limited, Inc. since 1981. During his career he has held several positions within the corporation including laborer, supervisor, project manager and vice president. As the business’ president and CEO, he is responsible for the company’s overall management and operation. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota.


Dennis J. Kennedy, executive vice president for Distribution Contractors Association, in Richardson, Texas.

DCA Executive Vice President

 

Professional History: Kennedy has been an association executive since 1970, starting with the California Trucking Association and also the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He joined the DCA staff as executive vice president in 1989. Upon graduation from the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse in 1964, he served as a Naval officer on the USS Forrestal and in Vietnam with Mobile Construction Battallion One.


Dale A. Anderson is the president of Arby Construction, Inc., in New Berlin, Wisconsin

Professional History: Anderson has been in the underground utility business for over 20 years. He worked in the various craft positions before entering management in 1994. In his current position as president of Arby Construction, the oversees operations, safety and marketing for the company.


Grady H. Bell is the estimator/engineer for Laney Directional Drill Co. in Humble, Texas

Professional History: Bell graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1985. After a brief stint in the oilfield, Grady was hired as the first field employee of Sharewell, Inc. and operated a Tensor steering tool in its first HDD crossing. Working in the field for several years and then in the office for InArc / Reading & Bates, SPIE HDI, ARB and for the past 6 years with Laney.


Timothy A. Bell is the vice president for Midwestern Contractors in W. Chicago, Illinois

Professional History: Bell, a native of Illinois, started working at Midwestern as a laborer in 1985, and since that time, he has steadily moved up through the company working as an operator, foreman and project manager. Bell was promoted to vice president of the company in 2004, and now is charge of management of overall company operation.


Gregory S. Dahl is vice president of ARB, Inc., in Lake Forest, California.

Professional History: Prior to and following his graduation in 1977 from the University of California, Irvine, Dahl worked in various capacities from laborer to department manager for the Pacific Pipeline Company, Macco Constructors, Inc. and its predecessor Zapata Constructors, Inc. He has been with ARB since the company’s acquisition of Macco in October of 1993.


Kevin P. Michels is vice president equipment division for Michels Corp. in Brownsville, Wisconsin.

Professional History: After graduating from St. Norbert College in 1989, Michels began working full time for Michels Corporation, then Michels Pipeline, in the gas and pipeline division. In 1990, he became the materials and supply manager for Michels. Today he serves the company as vice president of Fleet and Equipment.

Frank L. Patterson is the president of Patterson & Wilder Construction Co., Inc., in Pelham, Alabama..

Professional History: Beginning in 1962 as a laborer, Frank worked summers and holidays throughout high school and college, progressing to operator, pipefitter, foreman, and superintendent. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in Business Administration and a concentration in Engineering. He has extensive experience in bidding, scheduling, and managing pipeline projects. Mr. Patterson became president of the company in 1976. He is also a past president of the Alabama Utility Contractors Association and Regional Vice President of the National Utility Contractors Association. Through these positions, he has worked with many United States Congressmen and Senators towards the betterment of the pipeline industry.


Jim Brotherton is the president of Brotherton Pipeline, Inc. in Gold Hill, Oregon

DCA Director At Large

 

Professional History:Jim Brotherton and his wife, Janis, incorporated Brotherton Pipeline, Inc. in 1983. Working primarily with WP Natural Gas, Brotherton Pipeline, Inc. retained contracts in the Lake Tahoe area until Jim and Janis moved back to their home state of Oregon. Since their return in 1986, the company has developed a substantial business in the Directional Drilling field, evolving into a full service underground utility installer, including fiber optics, natural gas, telephone, directional and horizontal bores, sewer water and distribution/transmission lines.


David A. Nelson is the president of Pilchuck Contractors, Inc., in Bothell, Washington

Professional History:After graduating from the University of Washington with a degree in Business Administration, Nelson began his construction career with Mid-Mountain Contractors. During his 16 years with the company, he worked in all areas of the business. In 1983, he started his own construction company specializing in gas distribution, communications and mechanical piping systems. Nelson also serves as a trustee of the Northwest Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry Health and Welfare Trust Fund.



David A. Wisniewski is the senior director of the underground business segment and global accounts for Vermeer Manufacturing Company in Pella, Iowa

DCA Associate Member Director

 

Professional History: Wisniewski has been employed with Vermeer Manufacturing for ten years and had performed the role of Regional Manager, National Sales Manager and Global Account Manager before becoming the Senior Director of Underground Business. He has been representing Vermeer as a DCA Associate member since 2000.


Gary W. Lawson is the Global Accounts Manager for Ditch Witch in Perry, Oklahoma

Professional History: Lawson is a 1974 graduate from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Business Administration. He has been employed for the last 28 years with The Charles Machine Works, Inc., manufacturer of the Ditch Witch product line. He has enjoyed several positions in the Sales and Marketing division including Training Manager, Regional Sales Manager, Market Development Manager and is currently a Senior Global Account Manager. He is one of three current Associate Members representing Ditch Witch at the DCA and has done so for a total of 9 years.
