Richardson, Texas – Three students were given a financial boost at the 51st Annual DCA Convention this month when they were selected by the scholarship committee as recipients of the DCA-Dale R. Michels Endowed Scholarship. The scholarship was founded in 1998 in honor of deceased DCA Honorary Member and Past President Dale R. Michels from the proceeds of the DCA’s Annual Auction. It is designed to award students each year from a $100,000 endowment.

The recipients for the 2012-13 academic year are:
Jacob Bortscheller, John Deere Construction & Forestry Division, $6,000 spread over 2 years; Hailey Wright, Snelson Companies, Inc., $6,000 spread over 2 years;  and Maria Nicholson, Utility Line Services, $3,000 spread over 2 years.

Jacob Bortscheller, son of Jeff Bortscheller, Production Supervisor at John Deere, is a senior at Hempstead High School in Dubuque, Iowa. Jacob is planning to major in Welding Engineering at Ferris State University.

Hailey Wright is a senior at Mount Vernon High School in Mt. Vernon, Washington. Hailey is planning to Major in Business at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington.

Maria Nicholson, daughter of Vernon Nicholson, General Manager at Utility Line Services, is a senior at Delsea Regional High School in Franklinville, New Jersey. Maria is planning to major in Chemical Engineering.

The 2012 DCA-Dale R. Scholarship committee was comprised of the DCA President Greg Dahl, ARB Inc., Lake Forest, California; Past President Representative Ken Gabrielse, Treasurer Tim Bell, Midwestern Contractors, West Chicago, Illinois; Associate Member Representative Gary W. Lawson, Ditch Witch, Perry, Oklahoma; President’s appointee, Tom Henkels, Henkels and McCoy, Batavia, Illinois and Ruth Michels, Michels Corporation, Brownsville, Wisconsin who sits permanently on the committee.
