Charge: Review all information concerning safety in the industry and safe job-site practices. Has oversight for the Arthur T. Everham Safety Award and the Annual Safety Congress.

Composition: The Chairs of each committee are appointed by the President at the Mid Year Meeting. The Vice Chairs are appointed by the Chair at the Mid Year Meeting. Members of the committee are self selecting, though the President can appoint members to the committee.

2010 Achievements:

• Concluded discussion on Most Improved award.  Award was not adopted.
• Safety Committee members personally contacted all DCA members to encourage participation in the Safety Congress and the Arthur T. Everham award.
• Updated the Safety Director Of The Year award to include sample responses from previous winners.
• Collaborated with Kevin Miller on presentation to AGA promoting preferred safety programs for utility customers.

2011 Goals

• Identify options to promote the DCA to the AGA and other key customer groups as an organization of contractors excelling in safety.
• Promote best practices identified by the Safety Committee to the DCA through speakers, DCA Newsletter articles, or other means.

2011 Initiatives

• Update committee charter at February meeting.
• Ben Nelson to pass chairman duties at convention to Mike Hickey.
• Identify best practices deserving promotion to DCA and decide how to best communicate them.
• Cooperate with McGriff, Seibels & Williams, or other firm, to promote the excellent risk management performance of DCA contractors to our customers.
• Safety Committee members continue to personally contact all DCA members to encourage participation in the Safety Congress and the Arthur T. Everham award.
